Saxophonist Alex Foster has made significant contributions to the music of a wide array of musical giants since 1973. His versatility has enabled him to step into various musical styles, though his forte is clearly in jazz. He is featured on recordings by Jack DeJohnette, McCoy Tyner, Don Sebesky, Miles Davis, Paul Simon, Ruben Rada, Paul McCartney, Michael Bolton, Michael Franks, Nina Freelon, Jaco Pastorius, The Mingus Big Band and Gil Evans Orchestra. In 1982 Jaco Pastorius recruited Alex to tour Japan as lead alto saxophonist in his "Word of Mouth" orchestra. Two live albums resulted, "Twins I & Twins II," earning a Gold Disk award from Swing Journal Magazine in Japan. Alex continued on as a member of Jaco’s small "Word of Mouth" group, with bandmates Don Alias, Othello Molineaux, Mike Stern, Ron Tooly, Melton Mustafa, Kenwood Dennard and Delmar Brown.
Alex also received wide recognition as saxophonist on the weekly network television show "Saturday Night Live," as a member of the SNL house band.
Beginnings...Goodbye is Alex Foster's debut recording under his name, displaying his skills as a composer, arranger and leader.
